The East of England Imaging Academy (EoE IA) is a regional collaboration of 13 NHS Trusts, serving a population of approximately 6.2 million people. It supports coordinated workforce development through shared training pathways and consistent imaging education standards.

Working in partnership with Rosenfield Health, the Academy established Europe's largest regional radiology teaching archive. Using the iCode Teaching Files System (TFS) and Teaching & Clinical Trial Export (TCE), the platform enables the secure sharing of anonymised imaging cases across NHS Trusts, supporting cross-trust learning, exam preparation and high-quality, standardised training across the region.

Fragmented infrastructure across a region

Fragmented teaching landscape

Radiology education across the East of England was siloed, with teaching cases stored locally within individual trusts limiting collaboration and cross-site learning.

Time-consuming & risk-prone anonymisation

Manual anonymisation processes were time-consuming and created governance risks, making it difficult to safely share studies in line with RCR guidance.

Unequal trainee exposure

Trainee exposure to imaging cases varied significantly depending on hospital placement, creating inconsistency in training experience across the region.

Multi-vendor complexity

With multiple PACS vendors in use and no shared teaching infrastructure, a scalable, vendor-neutral compliant solution was essential.

A Teaching Files Ecosystem Built for the NHS

Rosenfield Health supported the EoE IA by deploying a regional Teaching Files ecosystem built around two core technologies.

Cloud Platform

iCode Teaching Files System (TFS)

A cloud-based, vendor-neutral platform enabling the creation, organisation and reuse of anonymised imaging cases for teaching, training and assessment. Key capabilities include:

  • A unified anonymised teaching archive accessible across trusts
  • Governance aligned with RCR guidance and NHS DSPT requirements
  • FRCR-style teaching modules, quizzes and assessments
  • Advanced search, metadata and case classification tools
Local Integration

iCode Teaching & Clinical Export (TCE)

Installed within each trust, iCode TCE connects directly to PACS and anonymises studies at source before export. Key capabilities include:

  • Local anonymisation prior to data leaving the trust
  • Standardised metadata and categorisation
  • Full audit trails for compliance
  • A streamlined workflow from PACS to teaching archive

Together, TFS and TCE provide a safe, standardised mechanism for sharing teaching cases across multiple trusts and PACS environments.

We have been very pleased with how well the system has performed during our region-wide exams set up by the Virtual Imaging Academy. Support from the Rosenfield team has also been excellent, ensuring that the tests operate reliably and providing a seamless experience for both staff and candidates.
